This January, start your new year (and new decade) off with learning and sharing! The Long Island Writing Project is hosting an online book club for Kelly Gallagher and Penny Kittle's 180 Days: Two Teachers and the Quest to Engage and Empower Adolescents. The book club is open to any educator who wants to participate. The Long Island Writing Project is hosting the online discussion. We will have an in-person meeting on Saturday, Feb 1st at Nassau Community College, beginning at 9:30 am. The discussion will take place in CCB 210. You do NOT have to come to the in-person meeting in order to participate in the online book discussion.
Beginning on January 5th, we will be discussing the Introduction and Chapters 1 and 2.
During the week of January 12th, we will discuss Chapters 3, 4 and 5.
During the week of January 19th, we will discuss the Introduction to Section II and Chapters 6 and 7.
In our last week of the study, January 26th, we will finish the book with Chapters 8, 9 and the Closing Thoughts and Afterword.
This year, we will try using Padlet and a slower Twitter chat for our discussions. A slow Twitter chat allows you to answer the questions whenever you have time instead of being part of a specific time-based chat. The Padlet is an option for those who don't use Twitter. You can participate in whatever way you prefer.
If you plan to join the discussion, please email Kathy Neagle Sokolowski at [email protected]. Be sure to share this opportunity with your colleagues and friends!
